Monte-Carlo Masters

Updated 2026-11-05

Monte-Carlo is the clay Masters that top players are allowed to skip. The courts are at the Monte Carlo Country Club in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, not inside Monaco.

The club’s address is the fact that fixes the map pin. The history page and the event site’s own directions both put the grounds in France. The name is the neighbour, not the city limits. I would rather say that once, clearly, than let a travel page send someone to the wrong border post.

It began in 1896 as the Monte-Carlo International. A women’s event ran until 1982. Since then the Masters week is men only, which is one history page rather than two. The court is outdoor clay. The draw is 56 singles, 28 qualifying and 24 doubles, closer to Paris than to Indian Wells. Prize money in 2026 was €6,309,095, the same printed total as Paris and a different currency story from the US hard courts.

The 2026 dates were 5–12 Apr. Sinner won the final against Alcaraz. The history page and the event’s final report both say so. Nadal’s record is 11 titles, eight of them in a row from 2005 to 2012. That is the largest single-event Masters pile on the records table.

“Non-mandatory” means a player can miss the week without taking a zero-point penalty that the other Masters attach. I am describing the status the two sources give the event. I am not writing the 2027 rulebook. The 2027 dates on the event site are 3–11 Apr, and that page said tickets went on sale on 15 Oct. The 2027 field and prize money were not up yet.
